Gastric Bypass or Gastric Sleeve surgery

Are you amongst those who struggle with your weight due to problems with appetite control?

You are not alone, and surgery can be a succesful option for you who want to regain control over your body’s signals of constant hunger.

About the surgeries

When having a gastric bypass surgery, the procedure performed by making five small openings in the abdominal skin. The openings make room to the equipment that should be used to perform the surgery. The objective of the operation is to decrease the size of the biggest stomach pouch in order to decrease food consumption. The smaller pouch will be connected to the intestine, which results in the food transported around the bigger stomach pouch (bypass). Neither pouch or intestine will be removed.

Gastric juice from the bigger stomach pouch, liver bile and pancreas enzymes will end in the duodenum and will be led to the small intestine further down. This will result in a faster process of the food and a lower level of use of energy.

The patient will experience a decreased level of appetite because of a regulation of appetite stimulating hormones. At the same time, you can experience discomfort by eating foods with a high level of fat and sugar. Therefore it is important to eat healthy after the surgery.
If you are diagnosed with diabetes type 2 you will experience a fast bettering of your condition caused by a more effective process for the impact of the medications.

The patient can expect to lose 60-70% of the obesity during the first year.

All prices should be seen as guidance and they can change due to individual needs, which will be revealed after the consultation with the surgeon.

Gastric sleeve is a surgical procedure in which about 70 – 80% of the stomach is removed, so that the remaining stomach becomes narrow and tubular.

Gastric sleeve causes weight loss by limiting food intake and reducing the feeling of hunger.

The nerves to the stomach and stomach are preserved and there is no bypass of the intestine, as in gastric bypass.

The weight loss in gastric sleeve is usually less than in gastric bypass.

The operation results in less tendency to dump when consuming sweet treats. Therefore, this operation is less suitable if you have a great urge for sweet things.

This type of surgery typically causes more nausea the first time. Is not suitable if you suffer from acid regurgitation and / or have esophageal hernia.

The operation takes place as a binocular operation under full anesthesia.

The precautions after gastric sleeve are exactly the same as after gastric bypass.
